    Connection Problems
    « on: February 09, 2008, 10:54:48 PM »
    I have a gateway computer Series E its running windows XP and I just installed a wireless G card into my computer. Before I had the card in a Dell computer my network speeds were around 36 to 48mbps. I then put the card into this gateway computer when my dell broke and it only gets 11mbps. I have been dealing with it for awhile the Mb's go up and down when I use AIM and the internet and if I am using AIM and the internet at the same time I get kicked off line. Today tho I turned on my computer and for some reason my AIM settings popped up on the screen didnt hit any buttons it just popped up and it showed me the settings part where it shows connections and it had host and port and I was just looking at it for a few seconds and then I clicked save and it disappeared I then went to get onto Firefox and discovered my internet was running at 48MBPS again I was getting a low signal it said but it was running at 48MBps so I mean thats fine with me. I was using it for 3 hours turned on AIM and it dropped to 18MBPS I didn't mind it didnt really affect anything. I then turned it off and turned it back on and its now running at 11MBPS again I left clicked on my AIM icon and went to settings connections and hit save again and nothing happened. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card many times I think now that a firewall or something is preventing my card from working correctly if anyone has any idea's I'd like to hear them I just want my computer get a quicker MBPS. I also saw when I right clicked on my card you can add QOS PACKET SCHEDULER Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and file and printer shareing anyone have any ideas for me?

    Download, and install TCP Optimizer: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
    Open it, and put a checkmark in Optimal Settings. Click Apply changes button.
    Restart computer, and see if it helped.

I had to switch it out of one computer to the other because my dell broke so I know its gotta be something inside the computer. Anyone have any other idea's?

        I get no connection at all it goes into safe mode and my connection icon doesn't even show up on the screen I clicked on the internet browser and it said it couldn't connect. I put it back into my normal mode and its still giving me 11MBPS. My laptop computer receives 48MBPS so I know its possible to get it to work I just don't know what to do to get it. After getting 48MB's the other day I wonder if it could be my virus protection or firewall settings I do have Norton anti virus 2007 installed but I don't know.

        What type of connection is it? Cable?

        Download HijackThis:
        http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hijackthis.html
        and post its log.

            Next time, you post HJT log, please, do not forget it's header.

            You have some serious infections there.

            First, go Start>Control Panel>Add\Remove, and...
            - uninstall MyWebSearch
            - Uninstall any of the following programs associated with Viewpoint:
                * Viewpoint Manager
                * Viewpoint Media Player
                * Viewpoint Toolbar

            Then...
            1. Run one of two free on-line scanners:
            *** ESET Online Scanner at: http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
            Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only
               1.  You will notice that the "Start" button is grayed out. Place a check mark at "Yes, I accept the Terms of use". The "Start" button will become visible. Click on it.
               2. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
               3. You will be asked to install an ActiveX, click the "Install" button (Note: If you have a Firewall install you may have to approve the installation)
               4. Once ActiveX control is installed click on the "Start" button to initialize the scanner
               5. After initialization is complete, make sure, that  "Remove found threats", and "Scan unwanted applications" are checkmarked.
               6. Click the "Scan" button
               7. Once the scan is done, you will find a log in C:\Program Files\esetonlinescanner\log.txt
            Post ESET's log.

            *** TrendMicro free on-line scan, HouseCall
            It works with Firefox, and Internet Explorer

            Click on
            It'll ask you to download small housecall66.exe to your computer.
            Double click on the above file to begin scanning process.

            HouseCall pop-up window will open.
            Accept the agreement.
            In next window, select Complete Scan, and click on Start Scanning button.

            Relax, it'll take a while.

            Upon completion HouseCall will displat results under Results tab.
            Write down list of infections, and post it back here.
            Click Clean now button.
            Close application.

            2. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
            http://www.superantispyware.com/

            Print these instructions out.

                * Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
                * An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.

                      Ok I have a question I was going to do what you said but I recently bought windows Vista now I installed it and I'm still only getting a low signal getting booted offline alot and such. My computer is a Gateway E series its a faily small computer when I put my Wireless G network card in the back of it it wouldnt fit thats how small it is I had to cut some of the metal off the card just to get it to fit in the computer. Ok could it be that the computer itself shouldnt have that card in it and if so do you know if they make cards for thiner computers like that?
