About a graph on a drive...
« on: February 14, 2008, 12:34:15 PM »
You know when you right click on a drive, and it says properties at the end of the list, and then you click that and it shows you a graph?

Sorry if it's to big. Notice it doesn't have an amount... Why doesn't it, and can I get the amount back without reformatting it? Cuz isn't it soppost to have an amount on it weather you reformat it or not?...
Thanks.

What kind of removable disk is it? Is the disk in?

If the Properties say RAW you may be out of luck and your data is probably gone...
As Broni says more info...

It's a memory stick.

What disk? It's a memory key... Does it need a disk?

And you guys said you wanted more info, Broni so I was kindly giving it to you guys...

Here are some questions, so I'm more knowagable of Memory sticks.

Why if it changes the Drive or whatever to RAW, that it's probably destroyed the infomation?
Why doesn't it have a capety?
Why does it say it's full when it wasn't when it got a shock (From me not knowing anything about a bottom that stopped it, then it was safe to take out? (That's my thory anyways.)

What disk?
Memory stick.

It doesn't. It says "0"

RAW File System is the same file system status when you buy a fresh, unpartitioned hard drive. The drive is theoretically, completely empty, but in your case, it's probably damaged.

If you mean "capacity"....

The most common reason for this happening is the drive (whether External or a thumb/stick drive ) is that it was unplugged prematurely without using the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in Windows...
It happens...we've all done it but again if this is how it is reported in Disk Management then chances are all the above is accurate.

Ya... That's how it happened... Thanks. Cuz on the instructions they don't give you any worning not to unplug it like that. :(. I just learend on my new U3 one about that botton, cuz it had stuff about it...
Is there a program or something where I can try and peice together the undamaged parts and see what comes up?

Well you shouldn't. A graph is not a pie chart and vice versa.

It says "unable to read boot sector" Why doesn't it go past that? Or is it like a wall that it has to get passed to read the other sectors? I don't know much about this... I'm just trying to understand.
Are there any other options for me to try?
  Thanks.
