Google to store patients' health records
« on: February 21, 2008, 06:56:31 AM »
I'm a big Google supporter but even this raises concerns with me. I don't think a search Engine needs to keep medical records.

---

Google Inc. will begin storing the medical records of a few thousand people as it tests a long-awaited health service that's likely to raise more concerns about the volume of sensitive information entrusted to the Internet search leader.

The link doesn't appear to work anymore, but it provide this other article:
http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2008/12/15/story7.html?ana=from_rss

I don't know the whole story, but they make it sound like the records are only from patients who agree to share them and that they can only be accessed by doctors (much like how only realtors can access special MLS listings).  If that's the case, then it doesn't sound like a huge concern to me.  But like I said, I don't know the whole story.

Looks like a spammer, hijacking old post. But thanks for the updated link for those who may be interested in reading more about this. Apparently a lot of users are in love with this feature, I recall a few months ago seeing a TV show about a woman talking about how helpful it was.

However, spammer has been banned, link removed.

Ha ha, sheesh, I didn't realize that this post was almost a year old.  Sorry about that.  In any case, I'm glad the spammer has been taken care of.
