How to get sound again
« on: February 23, 2008, 03:29:39 PM »
My bf accidently deleted his sound from his computer. There is absolutely no sound. I was told once from a salesman at Best Buy that you can download sound software free online. I was wandering if anyone knew how to do that and could explain it to me so we can once again have sound on his computer. Thank you

Yes,  there are quite a few folks around here that can probably advise you,
however they need more info.

Visit:
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,33586.html
then come back here and post as much of that info as you can.

Also,  can you ask him if he remembers what he deleted?

Your question about "sound software"  free online can mean a couple different things.    If you can tell us what he believes he deleted,  that will help explain your question.

Be assured -  if he deleted drivers,  then they are likely available online for free.        If he deleted some program that plays music,  those too are available for free.
With more info from you,  the knowledgable folks around here will have some ideas for you.    :)

Welcome to Computer Hope.

Device Manager/ Sound controllers...right clik it and select Properties.
This should tell you what it is.

To get to Device Manager, go Start>Run, and type in:
devmgmt.msc
Click OK.

Depending what brand it is they should have a site.  Goggling it would be the best thing.  There should be a sound driver in the packageing.  Since that most company's send it out with them just in case.  The best buy guy was probably say if you ever misplaced the disc.  Sorry on behalf of knowitall. He doesn't really.
Windows 7 RC Tester.  Working on it.  Your monitor says etchasketch on the side!

      Dear Friend,
Please look for the specifications of your mainboard/computer. There you can find the name and model of your sound card. Just search and download. Patience is required.

      Probably here:   http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

But - -  as it is right now,  it won't do you any good.     The problem is just as we've been saying all along -   need more info.     :)
If you knew which HP computer it is,  perhaps you could enter that info at that site and find what you need.

      Or:
Respond to patio and Broni's posts above.    Perhaps using the things they have said,  you will be able to identify just the sound card itself.

When you post here either the exact model number/description of the whole computer,    and/or   the exact description of the sound card,  then somebody here will be able to help you find the matching driver.

      I hope this helps.
