Computer starts and shuts off
« on: February 27, 2008, 08:36:42 PM »
Just today, when I tried to turn my computer on, it turns itself off.  It loads the graphics card info, then the motherboard logo appears, and thats when it dies. There is also a quiet electronic scratching type noise before it shuts off.  Does anybody know what the problem is?  Suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the CH forums.

Suspect hard drive failure.  The "scratching" noise could be the dreaded head crash.

D/l and run your hdd manufacturer's diagnostic program from their site.

While you're running diagnostics please read this..

If you can get to the BIOS, see if your hard drive is listed in the BIOS...
