    « on: March 09, 2008, 11:29:12 AM »
I'm looking into either saving up to make a whole new gaming rig or upgrade the existing PC I have at the moment.

What you need to know it the systemboard of the computer. check the specs of your systemboard / motherboard. There are two types of Graphics card one is for VGA slot and the new one is PCI-E slot.

mostly gaming - not high end like crysis

alright, you will only be able to purchase PCI graphics cards with that motherboard.the best one i could find is this one.

if you really want to play modern games, you will need to purchase a new motherboard, CPU, video card, and RAM

what sort of specs are needed to last for modern games for about a year without upgrading the system?

do you want to just be able to play them or do you want to be able to play them with good graphics?

I can stand games as long as they run smoothly although games like crysis require a direct x 10 compatible GFx card . I would probably be aiming at that if I were to make a gaming rig.

i would save up about $1000 for a gaming rig.
