Fair Warning:  I am fairly clueless about computers.  I am having trouble opening some pictures in my email.  Either they don't open at all - I can only see the thumbnails attached to the email, or they only open as big as a thumbnail.  This only happens with some of the pictures sent to me.  Help!

Your Windows version, and your email program, please. Do those pictures come as attachments?

Windows XP.  Email through internet explorer and yahoo, not sure which you wanted.  Yes, they are attachments.

      I assume - Outlook Express?
What program do you normally use to see graphic files?

I don't use outlook express or outlook.  I log onto the internet using internet explorer and then use yahoo mail.

Right now my computer goes back and forth between using Kodak EasyShare, Microsoft Office Picture manager and Windows picture and fax viewer.  I think that is part of my problem.  Maybe?  It keeps changing between them all - without me doing anything, at least knowingly.

You have to establish one program to be default one.

Ok, I followed the instructions in this link and my pictures are still not opening.  When Windows picture and fax viewer opens it says no preview available.

When it asks me if I want to open the picture or save it the box states that it is a EasyShare jpg - even though I have changed my picture viewer.  Does this mean anything?

            Thanks!

Did you save file in question to your hard drive, first?

I have tried both - opening the picture and saving it to a file or to the desktop and then opening it.  They both have the same results.

Maybe the file is corrupted. Try Irfanview: http://irfanview.com/

Well, if Irfanview won't open the file = file is corrupted.

I don't think it is a problem with the file.  I can open the attachments on a friend's computer - through my yahoo account the same way I am trying it at home.  It just doesn't work on my own computer.

Still not working.  It is now say "can't read file header" and "unknown file format or file not found".

I believe you that it is corrupted - you obviously know way more than I do, but explain how I can open them on other computers.

I was going to, but when I went to save it to my desktop to attach it (the only way I know how to get it to you) I noticed that the size was 0 when it was saved.  What the heck am I doing wrong????  Why do I have no problem with some pictures?  Argh!

The two different sizes are two seperate pictures, from the same person, in two seperate emails.

I saved the pictures on a different computer today and they opened just fine.

The one that I attached for you that was 3.75kb does not open full size on my computer, though.  It will open it whatever program I am using, but only the same size as the thumbnail that is in my email.  On other computers it opens full size, though.

Also, the one that is 0kb will open fine on other computers.

I've never heard of any computer, which would open 0KB file. Mine, obviously, doesn't open your 0KB file, so I guess, there is something wrong with my machine.
Second image (3.75KB) is only 113x150 pixels, so how do you want to open it in full screen? Full screen, depending on monitor resolution, may be like 1280×720 pixels. Surely, you can save 150x113 image as 1280×720 image, but it'll be very grainy, and blurry.
Below is your 113x150 image enlarged to 760x1280...
