Forum default theme changes
« on: April 05, 2008, 04:00:20 AM »
I did a few updates on the default theme used on the Computer Hope forums.

Updates:
================
- Removed the "Message icon:" option when creating a new post.
- Updated the tab index so after typing in a subject pressing tab will move you to the message box, pressing tab again will move you to the Post button.
- On post listings remove the second column that showed the different message icons. These are rarely used and seemed to just clutter things and make the listing more complicated then it really is.
- Modified the footer displayed at the bottom of every page.
- Few other minor changes.

Still working on some other changes. This was all I manage to do for the last hour tonight, err morning.

Comments / suggestions always welcome.

Closing a Topic page is now closing the preceding page as well...a few times it closed everything.

CHMain Forum Page..........................Windows Forum.....................Topic.

Closing Topic closed all 3.

" Page created in 0.168 seconds with 23 queries. "
I dont recall the generation time being there before either.

The bottom of the page (which, I do look at) is a lot neater now (without the CSS/RSS or XML verification things)

Just a word of caution:
Modifying the SMF copyright tag (Its a PHP element... its on every template) can cause your forum to shut down and completely lock up until you reinstall SMF or find a way to fix it again. (Copyright protection... who would have known..)
I had a bit of a mishap while trying to install a custom template. (That happens to be the reason why I "upgraded" to the SMF 2.0 BETA in the first place, I couldent get the old one fixed again once it closed up on me.)

Sorry Patio, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "closing a topic". Are you simply going back to the main board index and that is closing all three??

Zylstra, the page created actually has always been shown, just with everything else was probably more difficult to see as far as the copyright there is warnings in the templates about modifying the copyrights so I left it as is.  :)

Heh. Sorry for still being confused. But how are you closing the posts? Closing a tab, window, hitting back arrow?

OK Broni.....point taken.
I close out the browser window with the X. Not using Tabs. Firefox 2.0.0.8
When i do this now it closes out the 2 other underlying open CH pages...

Firefox 2.0.0.8 is little bit outdated, but, anyway....
Did you try to use Firefox(Safe Mode) from All Programs?
I'm assuming, it happens with internal links only opened in separate windows?

I'm unable to duplicate this. Anyone else able to get this to happen?

I just tried it on Vista with FF2, and on XP with FF3, and it's not happening.

The changes I made with the theme I don't believe would cause this. Have you tried one of the alternative themes Patio?

I attempted (a few days back) to reduplicate the problem with Vista and FireFox 3 BETA 5
No dice.

I'd say its the outdated FF version.
