USB keyboard not detected by used of adapter
    « on: May 09, 2008, 05:10:32 AM »
I have just purchase a new keyboard, comfort curve 2000 and enjoy using it for my everyday computer task. the keyboard is a USB device and I want to use it through the PS/2 port because I know that I am not able to access BIOS or chose boot up menu at start up. got an adapter USB to PS/2, after setup and start up, the keyboard is not detected at all ???  Did a windows and microsoft update (XP pro and Vista) and still have the same problem. test the adapter by connecting to a USB mouse and it works just fine. tested the PS/2 port by connecting PS/2 keyboards, works just fine too.  The keyboard works well in the USB port. I have even download the drivers for the keyboard, but they are just for keyboard features only. >:(
I have also purchase over 5 adapters for this keyboard and still experiencing the same problem. I even check BIOS, enable USB support for the keyboard, no result.
I belive that I do not need a BIOS update since my motherboard is only 2yrs old, or am I wrong in that area?  anyone in the computer hope community can give me hope, do not want to put the keyboard in storage because of the technical issue.
    Thanks.

You should just purchase a PS2 keyboard/mouse combo for emergencies and keep them in the closet and use the other one for everyday use...
    Everyone should own one.

Because the comfort2000 is a custom board it probably needs it's drivers to work...that's why it doesn't work with a PS2 adapter.

He said it worked with a mouse, but never tried a second USB keyboard. I have one that came with my mouse, and it only works with my mouse (not my Comfort Curve 2000)...

A workaround might be to enable "USB keyboard Support" or "Legacy USB support" in the BIOS.

I use the MS wireless laser keyboard & mouse 6000 and had the same problem.

Make sure you're connecting the keyboard and mouse to the USB ports on your mobo. Not all USB ports are powered up on boot therefore BIOS cannot detect devices.

Hey.. thank you everyone who responded to my post. it seems to me that each of you guys are saying to me that because the keyboard or any USB device is not always detected during boot up?  The keyboard is an HID (Human Interface Device)
so it always likely there is no kind of support for it? If that is the case I would have to keep switching back and forth the keyboard when there is a need for me to access the BIOS for a configuration task. is there any true hope for a working solution to this technical issue? I really hate to give up on this, so I am going to keep on investigating for a solution to bizarre problem. thanks everyone.

Ok, I may have missed this, but I didn't see it.

Have you tried to plug it into the USB port and get into the BIOS to see if it will work?

I've done some searching around and found that apparently the Comfort 2000 will not work with a PS/2 adapter.
