Booting problem

Whenever I start my system, the power supply fan works, but there is no display in the monitor. the optical mouse light is there but the keyboard is not working. Two pins on my monitor plug is broken. could that be the reason. My system is 6 years old, pentium4, 256 mb RAM, It had 3 os red hat linux, windows 98and windows 2000 server, of linux had crashed. i was planning to format my system, but this happened, plz help , i dont know what to do.

Yep,  this is probably why.
Try another monitor.
