Watch another computer screen from my computer
« on: June 26, 2008, 08:05:48 AM »
I have a computer(XP) with software(Spotlight) which monitors all of the servers on my network. I also have several other programs on this machine as well. The 4 programs I use to watch the system rotate in a loop. I cant put the software on my machine becuase I use Vista and 2 out of 4 dont do well with it. What I would like to do is watch the monitoring computer from my desk and to take it a step further, I would like to set it to a screensaver, so it is visble to others when I am not at my desk. Any thoughts or ideas to help me get there?

Just a sidenote, I currently use UltraVNC on this machine, I am trying to find a none VNC style program.

Can you see the other screen from your desk? Would a clear screen saver take care of your problem?

That software is awesome, never seen that one before, and after re-reading my first post; I can see how that would solve what I posted. But one small bit of information I left out: the computer is in the rack, in the server room. But I want to view it at my desk. Sorry I didnt put that in earlier.

I would suggest you try to build another machine (or you can use yours) and setup a remote desktop connection with it to the XP machine and the run the software I posted before. I would use the one built into windows XP. You don't really need to use UltraVNC.

Not a clean answer  but it would work.

The software and computer used are leased (when the lease expires it's gone) and trying to put into place a temporary work around.

I just noticed that they have a version that works with Smart Cards http://www.e-motional.com/TScreenLockSC.htm including those that work with Dod CAC cards.  Has anybody tried this out?  I dont have a Smart Card equipped here but would like to know.

Not tried it, but if the software didn't work as advertised, I'd be looking for a refund.  ;)

Did you try it?   I just did and it seems to work.  Did you have any problems.  Let me know so I can try to reproduce your bugs.

By the way, since I never did say what I ended up doing. I use TScreenlock just like what was recommended. Bought it and continue to use it to this day. I also use a VGA splitter and converter and network converter. I then take my screen over an ethernet cable to my location and reconvert it back to VGA and presto. Total cost including TScreen was about $200

Sorry for waiting 3 years to post that up.

I have not used this software ever but I am searching for this kind of software. After reading your post I found that It is very good and useful software. Its working fine with me because I am running Windows XP.

          Thanks
