Here's a challenge for someone---I need some help.
    « on: July 01, 2008, 11:26:18 AM »
    Hey everyone,

This might be a tough one I am not sure.  I am working remotely at another office on a desktop.

I use Go to my PC to access my main office computer.

I really need to move alot of my files including all my  microsoft outlook files and many other normal files  form my main computer thru this computer and onto my laptop!!!

    Is this possible?

If so can someone give me detailed instructions on how to?  I am not very advanced on a computer.

Also what is the best method to transfer that many files?  I have a long usb cable with me.

I really  hope someone can help me.

    Thanks a tonne.

    BB

      I have a thumbdrive 8GB.

I don't think it is enough.

Is it easier to move to thumbdrive and then to laptop?

Will that work with outlook files?

      Thank you

put all your files on your flash drive or portable hard drive and then copy it to your laptop. The transfer speed is ridiculously faster that way.... maybe 10 minutes for everything. If you do it over the internet, you'll probably be looking at a few hours, depending on your internet speed.

Why can't you get to your desktop?
The only reasons I can see why you couldn't get to your desktop is either you're on vacation and your boss asked you to look at something, or you are trying to hack into someone else's computer.
If the former is true, use your vacation time a little better and spend time with your family.
If you are doing the latter, you won't get any help from us.

One things for sure ..........I don't possess hacking skills.

I work out of a satellite office using the Go to my PC to access my desktop.

But I want to move these files (my own files)  onto my laptop so that I can review even when I am not attached to internet.

Basically can I move the files on my desktop , Using go to my PC, over the internet, onto my laptop.  Including the files in my microsocft outlook?

So apparently (based on the other topics you've created about the same thing) you are going to employ the copy to usb drive method? Do you still need help with this?

            Yes,

It's just too much for me to handle any other way.

I am going to have someone go to my office and try and download to a thumbdrive and the fed-ex to me.

I think he can handle that but how long do you think this will take to move the files over?

I will check the links  you left now.

            Thanks

Didn't realize those links were just my posts...........

Is there a best way to move files  to the thumb drive........or just right click and send to that drive?

how long do you think this will take to move the files over?

If you're moving 10gb via USB 2.0, it might take about an hour. If you're doing it via USB 1.1, you might be better off doing it over the internet. lol ;D

or just right click and send to that drive?

That's the way I would do it. :)

OK so my guy is there but when he tries to send to drive F ( thumb drive) it say the destination disk is full..... insert new disk????  Or something like that.

But the thumb drive still says there is 15 GB left??

                What are we doing wrong?
