I cant hear any sound, and It's NOT on mute!
    « on: July 17, 2008, 09:14:34 PM »
I have this recent problem on my computer where I cant hear sound. I think I know the cause, I was deleting unused programs from my computer to make it run faster. I think I accidentally deleted something necessary for sound. I could hear fine up until I started deleting things. My question is this, Do any of you know a program I can download and install onto my computer to make it have sound again? I would really appreciate quick replies =]

Welcome to CH forums FanchonVANITY  :D

it sounds like a driver issue to me. but before in order for us to help you, you need to post more info about your machine.

      manufacturer of sound card?

      OS?

with such information, we may be able to help you locate the correct driver.  ;D

      Try system restore.
Click Start then All Programs. Now find Accessories and move you mouse over it and another box will appear. Move down to System Tools and click on System Restore at the bottom.
Now just select "Restore My computer to an earlier time" and choose a date before you deleted all of those files.

        Try system restore.

         won't work.

system restore does not backup any user generated files.

If indeed uninstalling a program or application caused the loss of sound, i'm not sure system restore will help.

Who knows, what he really removed. If some system files, system restore is worth a shot. It won't hurt, anyway.

If we forget that a lot of Sound Card Drivers are installed and appear in Add/Remove programs...

sounds like they uninstalled the sound card drivers from Add/Remove programs. I'm not sure but I believe System Restore (if it goes back far enough, that is) would resolve the issue.

good point. i've just realised that my Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers also come up in add/remove programs.

i agree, system restore is an option.

try it and see if it helps. keep us posted.

That will give you info about your computer, you should be able to find the manufacturer and model of your sound card or chip from this program and then download the drivers.
              Hope this helps.

Any errors listed in Device Manager?
If not, as Calum said, reinstalling sound driver may help.

control panel > sounds and devices > if no audio device is displayed, your drivers aren't installed.

control panel > sounds and devices > if no audio device is displayed, your drivers aren't installed.

Does the driver properties have anything to do with it? because It says 'Legacy Audio Driver' but when I click on it, it has no properties. I dont know if that could be the cause or what. my friend Jonny tried to help me, and said that Antex probably made my sound card, but I know virtually nothing about computer manufacturing and so I have never even heard of Antex.
