Just a typical example of not being patient, and not paying enough attention...
Stupid me, lost two hours, trying to revive my Vista.
I'm posting this to spank myself on a naked *censored*.
It started very innocent...iTunes didn't want to start.
Ehh, I'll just restart computer...
Sure...after restart, the computer gets stuck at Compaq logo.
What the heck?
I force it to restart....same thing.
OK, I'll wait this time...waited 5 minutes at Compaq logo...nothing.
Got Vista DVD + Vista Recovery Disc ready.
Restarted. Waiting at Compaq logo, pressing ESC to get to boot menu..
OK, after almost breaking ESC key, I got boot menu.
I go for HD, it stays at black screen. Nothing.
I repeat the action. This time, I select to boot from Vista DVD.
It goes to Vista type background, but nothing there.
Forced restart.
Just be *censored* patient, Broni.
OK, I will.
After 6 minutes, computer leaves Compaq logo screen.
Blinking cursor for another two minutes.
Black screen for another 2 minutes.
Oh, I can see M$ bar moving. Another 2 minutes passes.
Black screen for 2 minutes.
Oh, Vista logo comes up. I'm getting somewhere.
Another 2 minutes, and desktop slowly appears.
It takes another couple of minutes to get Windows up.
Windows Explorer won't open.
Anyway, it took about 20 minutes from pushing power button to get to my desktop.
What the heck?
I look at temps. Normal.
I go for System Restore.
Another 20 minutes lost.
I go for Erunt.
20 minutes down the drain.
I turn it off. Look inside - pretty clean.
Reseat RAM, video card, restart.
Another *censored* 20 minutes.
Turn it off. Yanked off all USB cables.
Pushed power button. I'm all set.
In no time I'm at desktop.
Ok, getting closer, I guess.
I uninstalled all USB controllers, restarted, booting just fine.
Turned it off, reconnected all USB devices, same problem.
Turned it off, disconnected all USB guys, booting fine.
Turned it off, reconnected printer, and external HD to two back USB ports, booting fine.
Aha, either something wrong with front USB ports, or my double powered USB hub.
Reconnected empty hub, booting fine.
Turned off, reconnected MP3 player to the hub, booting fine.
Reconnected iPod Shuffle to the hub, booting fine.
OK, last item, Ipod Video...
Only at this very moment, I look at the darn thing screen, and it's stuck.
I try to push all buttons, no dice.
I had to disassemble it to disconnect its battery in order to reset it.
Reconnected iPod to the last USB cable, started computer, and all is back to normal.
I can't explain, how stuck iPod was making my computer unoperable, but this is what happened.
Just a great lesson, how you can know some about computers, and there is always a day, when you got stumped.
Holy cow!!
