Computer Hope Themes
« on: August 22, 2008, 03:14:00 AM »
As some of you have already noticed I've reset everyone to the default Computer Hope theme and removed some of the alternative themes on the site. I'm trying to move towards everyone using the Computer Hope or YaBB classic theme because all changes and new features that have been made in the past and I plan to do in the future are going to be done to the default theme.

If you've used an alternative theme because there is something you don't like in the Computer Hope theme please mention it and I'll do my best to accommodate the default theme to meet your needs.

Hmmm..... Do you want a word document or a text file? Either way, it will be a pretty big file.

Joking. :P

What about the Old ComputerHope Forums? Can we bring that theme back at all?

Post as many recommendations regarding the theme you'd like in this thread. Regarding the old Computer Hope forum theme, the default theme is actually based off that theme. So although it's not identical it's very similiar.

What about a lighter shade of blue for ever second post on a topic? I know when I'm tired, it burns into my eyes.

But overall, the theme is pretty well designed. Off the top of my head, I have no suggestions. (Theme based at least)

Personally, I like the default theme and is what I have always used.  I actually even considered copying it for my own forum...but it's not quite post-apocalyptic enough.  Heh.

Heh, it's alright.  It's a nice calm and friendly theme, but it wouldn't work for my forum.  My forum is tied in to a game of mine and it's going to need a lot of grays and earth tones.

Seems to be a problem with the "users and guests on and offline" in boards and topics...

I prefer "SMF Default Theme - Core" because I like the softer color scheme.

Don't mind the #D3E0EB but it'd be nice if the white was some very muted color - I use #ECFFFF in my apps instead of white - gives the eyes an easier time.

Even #EEEEEE altho a grey - takes the edge off white... tho just noticed we have #F8F8F8 already - that's not bad at all, just still a tad 'bright'.

Overall tho no biggie - it's a lot easier to view then some forums!!!

If no objections are offered we could try copying some of the SMF default color schemes into the classic theme.

It can be brought back, I mainly just removed it so others would give the classic theme a try and provide feedback without just switching back.

Changing the white to a less harsh color as suggested by ChrisXPPro. Changed the white #F8F8F8 to #ECEDF3

-Updated. Changed to #ECEDF3; more of a grey than a white.

I'm a little late replying here, Nathan.

I think the less themes you offer your users, the better off you'll be when it comes to adding changes to the forum.

I'm sure you're aware of adding modifications.  The package manager for SMF is a true friend...which I just recently got to work on my forum...however, some of the mods require manual edits, if there are additional themes involved...this can definitely be a pain in the rump!

That's why I don't offer any additional forum themes on the site.  Less to manage and update.

I know there are those who'll complain about the loss of available themes...but, it's better in the long run.

Ok. It'll be brought back. But first can you make any suggestions to why you prefer that theme over the default theme. Also realize that all changes such as the Topic Starter bar, possibly the quick reply changes, etc. that are being done will only be done with the default Computer Hope theme.

I don't think, it's possible to answer such a question. Different people use different skins for number of computer related features: browsers. media players, etc.
It's like about a car with certain color you like, but I may prefer different color.
