    Vista Registry Repair Software
    « on: August 25, 2008, 09:29:12 AM »
Hi Its been a LONG time since I needed your help (TG)

Does anyone have a good Registry Repair software for Vista (hopefully free) that you would recommend?

Its has treated me really well for about a year or year and half but its starting to act wonky  (dont know what everyone has complained about knock on wood)

I would like a free full version and see it that helps.

    Thanks guys

    Many results here:

You might want to check user reviews and comments before downloading though.

    Any ideas what's wrong?

No not sure whats wrong.  because its that old now and never had a registry clean up I figure its due for one

More often than not when I play a movie it starts to play then the media player freezes
its been starting weird and usually wants to do a repair because it didnt start properly to begin with and other little annoyances has started to occur.

So I thought I would start with a registry scan

      Thanks!!

Actually I think you should run CCleaner's Registry scan first. (run the whole scan and removal process a few times.

      Get CCleaner here:

Would Webroot's window washer do the same thing?

Many Registry Cleaners out there do far more harm than good which is why we are a little shy on recommending more than CCleaner here...
And normally you won't see much of a performance increase simply from running a reg cleaner.

          A few Questions:
When is the last time you ran disk cleanup and disk defrag ? ?
Is there alot of video and music files on this machine ? ?
What total capacity is your hard drive and how much Free space is left on it ? ?
Do you have indexing service enabled in Vista ? ?

Let's check these out first and proceed further...

I totally agree with patio, and....how much RAM is there?

            Hi Patio and thank you.

Ok I will make my way through each question.

I surf a lot so I disk clean and defrag 1-3 xs a week.
I use Window Washer and clean it at least once a month.
Not too much music or video or images on my computer.  I think I will delete the ones I have and clear out more space.
I have 138 GB and 87.2gb is freespace.
            RAM is 1022

Not sure what indexing service is.  I never heard of that.

I will put off doing the registry clean up until I learn more.

            Thanks again

            You could look here:

            Title says it all.

As for Registry "Fixers", I don't really have an opinion on that.
What else can they do besides removing bad entries?

Why do you think it's a registry problem?? What is the computer doing now that it wasn't doing before? You do realize that your running the minimum amount a ram for Vista? Personally I would $100 and upgrade the ram. Did you just recently install SP1?

I didn't think it was going to be a registry problem from the start.

Also, CarzyComputerGuy is right, your RAM could use some Upgrading for Vista. Personally, I would get around 2-4GB.

I will put off doing the registry clean up until I learn more.

Well, at least go ahead and get CCleaner and use it.  As previously stated, it's often recommended here because it's known to be a gentle registry cleaner.  In other words, it's basically not as aggressive in it's cleaning of the registry and therefore has a very good track record of being safe to use.

And then, if you want to try another registry cleaner, I'll suggest Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, one of the ones on the list in the link Carbon Dudeoxide posted back in his first reply to you.  I have it installed on my Win XP computer and have never had problems from using it.  Also, the user reviews on the aforementioned link are pretty good.

And, anytime you use any registry cleaner, be sure to backup the registry before executing the cleanup.  CCleaner and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner both prompt you to do this when you start them.

This is your first, and main problem. Give Vista another GB of RAM, and you'll see the difference.
CCleaner is fine, and I use it, as well, but this program is designed mostly for keeping your computer clean of garbage. Don't expect any visible speed increase.
...and as patio said above, stay away from other registry cleaners. You may break more, than fix.
