Why would screen need to be refreshed to open other pages?
    « on: September 18, 2008, 08:02:23 AM »
I have a problem lately, that to open other screens (clicking on boxes or choices on a screen), they will not open unless I refresh the screen and do it again. An example would be when I tried to click on "new topic" on this forum to start this post. Things use to work fine, I've made no changes, although the kids are often messing with things. I am running XP and have the same pop up blocker enabled. Any ideas? Should I try to system restore at some point? It seems to be more of an issue with boxes, rather than links and doesn't happen all the time. Thanks

    What Internet Browser?

Exactly what is the problem? Sorry but you didn't quite make that clear enough...

I use Explorer, is that what you mean? The problem is when I came to the page with my post, I hit "reply" to talk to you. Nothing happened. I hit refresh, hit reply and it worked.

        bump

A more effective bump would have been to provide more info... ::)

Yes, like browser version, and an indication of what steps have already been taken. I don't understand this:

The same as what? Have you tried disabling it?

In my experience of forums, "barefaced" bumping (merely posting the word "bump") is not only bad forum etiquette, it rarely works as the bumper wishes - it can actually make people less willing to help. Many forums discourage and/or penalize it. It conveys the impression that the poster is clamouring for help and desires to leapfrog other later posters of help questions.

Sorry for the "bump", didn't know it was bad ettiquitte, saw it on a car forum. The post kind of got lost in the shuffle and I just wanted to bring it up again because I figured the people on the site would know how to possibly help. I'm not sure how to explain it much better, I am using windows XP Home edition and have Explorer 7. The pop -up blocker I use is the one in the toolbar under tools and it is enabled. I don't even know/think if that is related or relevant. When I click on certain boxes on internet sites, sometimes nothing happens. I will refresh the screen, try it again, and it works. If it doesn't work it always works the next time after refresh and it doesn't happen all the time. A perfect example is when I logged into this site, everything was fine. I went to my post (doesn't seem to be an issue with underlined links, more on choice boxes), anyways so when I click on reply, nothing happens, hit refresh, hit reply, and here I am. I have made no changes to the system, others do use the computer though, and it started about a week ago. Hope this helps and sorry for the bump.

          Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons)
          Same thing?

That was how it was set, and yes it still does it. Wasn't sure how to switch out of that, tried to restart, but I still have the problem.

In IE, go Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and click on "Reset" button. Restart computer.

Just got infected with Antivirus 2008, wonder if this was contributing. Do I go to the post here where you submit 3 logs to help with removal? In the meantime I will be posting under viruses until I get this fixed.
