computer shutdown during reformat process

good day to all,

 please help with my problem in regarding, reformatting my hard disk in ACER travelmate laptop,..this is the scenario, when i try to reformat the hard disk, the system shutdown automatically, it reaches 10%,..15%..the last is 32%...so then i plan to defrag it first so that it fixed some bad sectors on it ,,,so then after defragmentation , still the problem persist, so then i came here that maybe someone knows how to fix this error......

my drive that i need to format is system drive c:

the specs of my lappy are:

ACER travelmate
winXP, 256 mem, 1.7GHz
80GB

You cannot format Windows WITHIN Windows.

Why do you want to format?

Also, do you have the Windows CD?

lol....yes im using windows CD in DOS mode, when i boot it up WINdows CD, and try to reformat it, the system automatically shut down......
