I cannot download updates

I recently reinstalled everything on my computer with the recovery disk from gateway for my emachines computer.  Now i cannot download any updates from microsoft.  Someone please help.

What version of Windows are we working with here?

Also, is it a genuine version (or have you activated it yet)?

1.You can turn of the firewall and lower your security settings in ie.
2.Windows update gives you an error code when fails post it here along with more INFO.
3.You can autoupdate and let in run for and hour. Restart the pc and try connecting again.

PS. post your update log located at  %windir%\Windowsupdate.log

I think i kind of found a way to download the updates.  I am downloading all 100 of them little by little.  I am hoping this will work with all of them.  I will let you know. Thanks again

I downloaded all the updates.  Now i have a problem with java.  I cannot open anything that needs to use java.  SOmeone please help.  thank you in advance.

Go to the Java site: http://www.java.com/en/.

Download.

Install.

Go to: Control Panel>Java>General Tab, click "About" - what does it say?

It says the information about java.  The version I have is version 6 update 7  (build 1.6.0_07-b06)

What, specifically, is the problem? If you go to: http://www.java.com/en/, and click on "Do I Have Java?" what happens?

I have IE7 and when i go to that site it just keeps going (the circle on the site).

Open IE7, go to Tools>Manage add-ons>Enable or disable>In the "Show" box->Add-ons currently loaded; is Java shown? Is it "enabled?"

java is there and it is enabled.

Why do you think that Java doesn't work?

I have not a clue.  I have tried everything i can think of to make sure it is working but the only thing that I haven't done was uninstall and reinstall.
