computer on screen black

I have a toshiba labtop M35X-S309, the computer is on, but the screen is black.  I have tried clicking the Fn and F5 to try to go through screen options, pushed on the little white (screen on and off) button, putting in the recovery CD, try to restart in safe mode, the safe mode screen won't even come on.  Does anyone have any other recommendations???

If you tilt the screen at an angle or put a light to it, can you see anything on it?
It is possible the blacklight is damaged.
