OC Fail
« on: October 04, 2008, 04:30:07 AM »
I get "OC Fail, Press F1 to continue" on the screen where we fine the entry to BIOS menu at startup time. I had taken out the RAM to find out what type it was.
OS : XP
RAM : 256MB( >:()
CPU : Intel P4
How do I fix it?

According to Google, OC Fail means OverClocking Fail.

You're not overclocking, are you?

Had you taken the RAM out to find out what kind it was, and then started getting the error message when you put it back in the system?  If so, make sure it's properly reseated / reinstalled.

"OC fail, please enter setup to change OC fail setting"
And then there are 2 options, press F1 to continue or press Del to enter Setup''

Is this the whole error message?

If so ,Go into Setup and set all Defaults.

remember don't do this if you don't know what you are doing, take someones help.

Or wait for others to reply aswell.

best of luck guys!

btw OC means over clocking... it means that one component of your pc is set to a higher frequency. It can be your card voltages, your cpu frequency of ram frequency etc .

I just cleaned it on a soft dry cloth as a lot of dust had settled on it.

All right...does the BIOS show all the RAM when it tests the memory?  Are you sure it was put back in place properly?  (It's easy not to get it back in right -- I've done it more than once.)

Yes

Then Go into Setup and set all Defaults.

I found two options like "Load Fail-Safe Defaults" and " Load Optimized Defaults". Which one to select?

Start with the Fail-Safe Defaults, as they are usually the most basic settings to make the system run.
