Hey, welcome to Computer Hope.  Since you've read a lot, I assume you've tried booting into safe mode, right?  What version of Windows are you running?  Exactly where is the black screen?  Before anything, after load bar, after log-in?  Does the black screen say anything?  What happens after you press ctrl-alt-del?

Hope you get it sorted.  :)

thanks for answering, ok, let me think, we got this one from a friend, wasn't working, so we got it fixed. Worked at home and I think it hat ME on it. After a few month it stopped working and I threw that thing in the garage, bought me a new one. My brother was her for vacation and tried to fix it, so he (don't know the word) took everything off and tried to put windows back on, but the drive wouldn't read anything. Vacation over, thing again in garage.  :Dok, I can start it, sometimes it says (this thing talks, I knew they alive) pga card not blabla, next time it says nothing. I know they put a new one in. Anyway, I start, I see the screen, it loads where it says ??DMI or so after that it stops or I hear the drive working and then black screen. But don't ask me if my brother put windows back on, I have to get in touch with him. Safe Mode, I can't find it!!!!When I press ctrl, alt and del I'm there where I should see all that. I replaced the battery, cleaned it.... no clue. thanks for help, oh, and when I put the windows cd in, it won't work either.

Yes, please do what Broni said.  Also, do you have a manual for this computer?

I just checked, after setup black screen. When I press ctrl, alt and del I see:
CMOS Setup Utility 1984-2000 Award Software
      Soyo Combo Feature                             PC Health
      Standart CMOS Features                        Status
and so on                                               and so on
What do I have to do know.
Just for info, usually my brother is the specialist, but he's all the way in germany. I just fixed somebody else computer, so I'm not totally "stupid" with pc, but this one.......... ???

We found now a recovery disk, now I see Help, start computer with cd rom, start comp. without rd rom , minimal boot. 1. I try help,  (Is windows ME) PCI bus scan cxomplete, Mircrosoft RAMDrive version blabla ok, Preparing to start your computer, it was running for 45 min and did nothing. Second try,  start with CD Rom support, PCI bus scan complete, Preparing to start, the diagnostic tools were successfully loaded to drive d. device driver not found:'MSCD001", no valid CDROM device drivers selected
Press CTRL, ALT and DEL to restrart your computer, there may be a problem with your CD ROM. Check to make sure it is properly connected and restart your computer. To view Help, type A:\>HELP, I do that. It says, try starting in Safe Mode(did that this morning), if you still unable to start windows normally, do the following At the command promt, type: scanreg/restore, ok where do I have to do this? Maybe we should stop here, I'll wait until you write me back, ok?
Thank you all so much, but I'm the type I don't like things they don't work and can't let go until they work^^

If you don't have any important data on that computer, you should start computer with cd rom, and using recovery CD, reinstall Windows, but since you're getting this:
      Quote
device driver not found:'MSCD001", no valid CDROM device drivers selected
I suspect CD drive is not connected correctly inside your computer.
