Quad Core Computer Good? :)
« on: October 31, 2008, 09:21:07 PM »
Hello everyone, I was just at the computer store, and i have gotten myself a quote for a custom pc.
Can anyone tell me if this pc is any good.

Its running,
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.50GHZ 2x4mb
Asus P5K-SE-EPU PCIEX16 Motherboard
Kingston, 4009mb DDR 2 RAM
Nvidia GF9800  512MB, x2 running on SLI mode
and windows vista as an os
and other stuff like blu-ray etc

I'm basically buying it the run a game coming out next year which is said to use entire cores just to render graphics, let alone physics and dynamics.

So is this computer worth my 2 grand?

Simply stating there is not enough detail to do a proper price comparison.
Don't know if this includes a monitor...
Don't know what BlueRay and other stuff entails...
Don't know what part of the World you are shopping in...

I found a system in about 30 seconds with the components listed minus the 2 vid cards for 900 Bucks...add the 2 cards etc. and it's still less than 2000.00

So call me selfish then.

selfish {adjective}  -  Caring only about yourself rather than about other people.

Patio? No way.

Kizza1645, what game is this?

The question as proposed doesn't lend itself to a drawn out explanation and appears to request a boolean return value expressing wether the computer in question is worth a specified amount of money.

now, if you had changed your last sentence to:

So is this computer worth my 2 grand? Why?

then it would.
You shouldn't even be aloud on this forum you selfish idiot.
Flattery will get you nowhere.
This forum is for help people and you have don't nothing of a such.
That's extremely untrue. (The second part, not the first part)

your an idiot

Speaking of idiocy, "your" is a possessive pronoun, I'm pretty sure.  What you want is, the contraction "you're" as in "you are"...

...but, wait!  there's more...

You shouldn't even be aloud on this forum

"aloud" had to do with sound, as in a word spoken aloud.  You want "allowed."

Almost missed the double negative:

You've nicely stated that this forum is to help people, and by stating "don't nothing of a such" the double negative makes it a positive statement -- so you're (see?) absolutely right -- but I'd bet you didn't know it!

Oh, has this turned into the English criticism game?

Where we all work really hard to find errors in the way people spell over the internet.
Even though, we all know very well that 85% of people over the internet don't give a rats *censored* if they spell something wrong or miss abbreviate something.

This is not the english grammar forum, I asked a legate question and I would like a reasonably good answer from someone like Carbon Dudeoxide.

Now there is someone who cares, there is someone who doesn't correct others spelling to increase ones self viewed intelligence.

The game is called Alan Wake, its going to be released sometime next year.

I'm buying this new computer just to support the game,

You asked the question, patio answered you, and only then did you actually include the apparently "implied" request for a reason as to why.

At which point he provided the "missing" information, bearing in mind he didn't take the obvious flamebait.

That's the problem, kizza -- I didn't have to work at all.  Go ahead -- use that old excuse that it's all right to make errors because everyone else does.  You're the one who isn't expressing himself properly, as to what you need with this computer, how it compares to others.  Go ahead -- spend your two thousand dollars on the system -- but if you're going to insult one of the lead people on this forum, it looks really dumb to do so when your posts are filled with the most basic of errors -- besides the fact that you're not telling us what you really mean.  I guess we're just supposed to know.

What is a "legate" question, anyway?  Do you mean "legit" as in legitimate -- where do you get "legate" -- it doesn't look or sound anything like "legit."   ???

it boils down to this- if someone doesn't make a effort to express themselves accurately, why are we supposed to make an effort to solve their problem?

Sure, spelling mistakes and grammar errors- not everybody is a scholar- but there IS a spell check built-in to CH for this reason, and glaring grammar errors will make themselves known if one reads their post over again, which people should do to make sure they are saying what they mean.

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.50GHZ  ~ $260
    Asus P5K-SE-EPU PCIEX16 ~ $80
4gb kingston ram ~ $100 (their gamer ram at least, rather pricery)
    Two 9800's ~ $400
    Windows vista 64-bit ~ $110
    Blu-ray drive ~ around $200 really depends.
You didn't include your power supply or hard drive preference but
    650watt sli ceritifed psu ~ $100 (70 after rebate)
    750gb hard drive ~ $100
    Case ~ ranges alot $60+

All of that works out to around $1400
Not sure if you're interested in spending $600 for it to be put together, but I sure wouldn't.  With that extra $600 you could upgrade that motherboard, that's a part I wouldn't suggest to skimp on.  I'm not even sure if the motherboard you've chosen supports sli.  You may also want to buy extra cooling/fans but I don't want to have to look that up now.

As far as patio's answer, your question didn't warrant an in depth explanation.  That computer clearly doesn't cost $2000 to make but I guess if it did that retailer wouldn't be in business.  You should try looking around online a bit before purchasing things.  In any case building your own rig is much cheaper and for $2000 you can get something much better.
