RAM question and monitor recommendation
« on: November 19, 2008, 04:34:20 PM »
I have 2 sticks of 1 GB G-Skill RAM. If i were to add to more sticks of the same speed but a different manufacturer would they be compatible with the G-Skill?
They would be 2 sticks of 2 GB Patriot Viper
I would then have a total of 6GB of RAM

I'm also looking for a new monitor and need recommendations on a good one for a good price. I'm looking for a 19" LCD(preferably a widescreen) that is a good price and good quality. Needs to be DVI.

I, personally, dont like to mix RAM. I have seen people do it though, and their systems ran fine. What O.S. are you running?

6 gigs of RAM is a waste. XP will only recognize about 3.5 gigs. Unless you have the 64 bit version. Do you?

Open My Computer look under Help/About Windows...it will show your version and service packs installed.

Been running twin Acer wide screen LCDs in pairs - both on main machine also backup.  They will take DVI.

Got those from newegg.com - MNTR ACER|LCD 20" 5MS AL2016WBBD R

These were just sub $200 when I got them near a year ago but these days there are a few deals to be had I think on similars.
Ain't technology great - until it goes wrong!
