winweb and trouble with instructions...
« on: December 21, 2008, 05:54:52 AM »
i've spent the last 4 hours following the instructions for removing malware:
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.msg290095.html#msg290095

i made it up to step 5.  after uploading the newest version of java, i have tried several times to delete the old version, by clicking on the JavaRa link.  every time i do this, my browser starts filling up with upteen-infinity new tabs and does not stop until i close the window.  what now?

my logs thus far are attached.  since running MBAM, winweb has stopped pooping up every 5 minutes... but i still feel vulnerable!

THANK YOU!!!

Not much is showing up in these logs.  Can you post a HijackThis log?  If you don't have it installed, a link should be on the "Read this first page".

Are you able to remove old versions of Java through Add/Remove Programs on the computer's Control Panel?

Also...
Download ComboFix by sUBs from one of the below links.  Be sure to save it to the Desktop.

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe

Close any open web browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) before starting ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus, and any anti-spyware real-time protection before performing a scan. Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.

Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, ComboFix will produce a log for you.
Post the ComboFix log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

NOTE: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware protection when ComboFix is complete.
