Would be a lot cheaper in a lot of cases to just buy the software. I couldn't imagine a scheme like this working with plenty of free alternatives (e.g. open office). It could however potentially work in a school of office environment since purchasing a multi-user license is quite expensive.

anything you see on slashdot that talks about microsoft should be taken with a grain of salt.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

    seems like a cheap way to cover themselves for the lost profit from vista, poor saps.
