    Display Frame Narrowed
    « on: December 30, 2008, 06:14:58 AM »
Using Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with automatic updates.  Following an incomplete (even after many, many hours) Bitdefender deep scan that killed 9 Trojan viruses, when I came back on to continue after hibernation, the display had changed to very enlarged presentations of the active applications which did not fit in the screen.  In fact a pop-up box came up to tell me that there wasn't enough room to display multiple applications.   I went to Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced and changed the DPI setting to "Normal - 96 DPI".  The final result is normal size application display, but the usable area of the screen is now narrowed to 10.75 inches instead of the 13 inches of surface width.  The vertical usable area has not changed.  Can anyone say how this happened or how to restore normal, original operation?
    All help always greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the idea.  I've never opened the computer up before.  I'll try to look up what is needed to do in Dell's references.  If not successful I'll be back  to you.

With a Dell the easiest method is to visit their site...enter your service tag # from the machine and all your drivers will be listed.

The Dell site for 'Drivers and Downloads' for my laptop's Service Tag does show in the Video section a driver called 'Intel Driver' (dated 7/13/06)  with the comment 'Applies to: Graphics Video'.  Is that the driver to use to reinstall?

The Dell site does not give me much confidence.  The Technical Support for Inspiron 6000  article (Journal ID: 09002D4YMX; Article ID: 324722) on How to use the Drivers and Downloads Website was revised just last week.

If you've entered your tag number and it gives you that driver, it has to be the right one.

Yes, CA.  Email [email removed] with subject 'Broni' and I'll dig it out of the suspect list.

            It's a goal...

            Hopefully soon to be realised.
