    black screen at startup

    hi can anyone help i have a dell inspiron 6000 that gos to a black screen after the dell screen and just sits there i can get at the bios and boot options IE hd,cd est tried to boot from windows cd all i get is the press any key then black and nothing i think it may be in some kind of sleep mode as when i told It to shut down i closed the lid be fore it turned off

      hi as ive said its a dell and its runing windows xp have not installed any software or hardware and as i cant get it to run i cant help you with what version it is running soory

      Have you tried removing the battery and unplugging the laptop, and then trying to boot it again?

      So when you try to boot off the CD, what exactly happens?

        sorry when i boot of windows cd i get press any fey to boot from cd then when i press a key i get setup is checking system and then black screen when i put the utilities cd in it go`s onto the full test screen and test the system this takes about 8hrs to do and it has passed all tests but it still will not start thanks

          hi, everyone in computerhope "WISH U HAPPY NEW YEAR".

          I have win xp pro sp2 installed on my machine , in the morning i switched on power supply there is no display i found please help me , and dont ask Q?s and the material in this site is so lenghty and i will not get any sequence to troubleshoot....please help me in a sequence that to troubleshoot..................

          And till your post is concerned, it is possible that the monitor power cable is causing the problem.

            sorry not sure what u mine by hijacking just trying to get some help the monitor works with the util cd
