Software problem to download

Hi, could you help me out on this matter of a question.  I am trying to download a program trial basis called "Crazy Talk" 3.5

 At one time (can't find now)  the download says that sometimes the firewall could be interfering with the download and that I should turn it off.  Isn't that dangerous and opening my computer up for harm.  I have XP:

HP 9750
1.2
378 ram

Anyway I took the chance and tried to turn it off and it will not turn off (guess because it is built into my xp system?)

I really don't know what to do.

Probably better to grab it from the Author's site instead of a warez site.
