Cannot Activate Windows
« on: January 14, 2009, 05:47:18 AM »
I have a very old version of Windows XP that I had to reinstall after my OS HDD failed on me. I can't activate over the internet because beleive it or not but my 7-8 year old version of windows has been activated too many times before. This is nothing new though, I have always had to phone Microsoft for aproval. Lately however whenever I call, I just get: "Sorry there is a fault.", by lately I mean for the last month. I'm in the UK and being given the number 0800 018 8354. Have they changed the number or something?

As far as i know there is no # limit on installing XP...unless it's a Corporate liscense.
If this is the case you may need an XP CD.

It's a very early release of Windows XP Home (says 2002 on the cover but i'm sure that XP didn't come out untill 2003). I have a CD that was bought separatly from the computer. So I have a CD and a code.

XP RTM was released in October 2001.

    XP SP1 was released September 9th 2002.

    XP SP2 was released August 6th 2004.

SP3 was released to manufacturing April 21st 2008.

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Actually its doing a better job at start up than XP did. Besides its exactly the same as XP... Totaly useless untill service pack 1 came out.

Now if I can just convince it that my graphics card doesn't have 2 gig of memory... ::)
