If you’re like me, you accumulate many bookmarks/favorites over time. I recently had over 2500 bookmarks in Firefox. Often, older ones are no longer valid, or have redirected to another URL. Reviewing them by simply working down through them from within the browser tends to be a very slow process. This process becomes much more efficient by using
AM-Deadlink. From the developer’s website:
AM-DeadLink detects dead links and duplicates in browser bookmarks and text files. If a bookmark has become unavailable you can verify and delete it permanently. Additionally you can download FavIcons for all your Favorites and Bookmarks.
AM-DeadLink is Freeware!
AM-DeadLink can check the following resources:
• Internet Explorer Favorites
• Firefox bookmarks
• Opera bookmarks
• URLs from tab delimited text files
• URLs from comma separated text files
AM-DeadLink can download FavIcons for:
• Internet Explorer Favorites
• Firefox bookmarks
• Opera bookmarks
AM-Deadlink generates a separate list of bookmarks to work from, separate from your browser. Changes you make within this list can then be permanently saved to your browser's bookmarks.
A side benefit of cleaning up dead links, if you have many and your total number of bookmarks is high, may be a little faster responsiveness from your browser. I've noticed Firefox now launches faster after I first start my computer and first start Firefox.
