So you took the new ram out and put in the old? Take it all out except for one stick.  What happens? Also, is it the right type of ram? Is it in the right slot

yes, took out the new ram, left in the old and all it does now when I plug it in is beep...I run XP, is a HP pavillliona305w, got the ram from 4allmemory
      512 DDR-266(PC2100) System memory 512-261828DDC2.5 (80636) B32
I thought it would work but now this...am using a little acer I bought off a guy and even though I have little hands I can barely type on it...and I am having some serious grief issues over this, I loved my little Demon!

I just got off the phone with my resident 'computer guy', he said he would check it out like Wednesday, can't now because his cat is dieing and I think I am in for a long weekend helping him through that, and I will cuz he is a nice dude and takes food like pizza as payment for helping Demon....but if you guys have any ideas I would sure appreciate them. He mentioned something about an error in the memory bank, something like that. So THANKS for helping me, guess I should take off the black armband, huh?:-) laters, unome

Originally there was just the one stick located on the left side facing the inside of the computer, put the new one in the right side slot, computer was unplugged, plugged it in and all it does now is beep on and on untill I unplug it or hold  the button in. I suspect something bad has gone wrong with Demon due to my wanting extra ram to make him faster but instead I have brain damaged him, or like the Mother Board. What happens if I take the memory stick that is on the left side and put it in the empty slot on the right side? Hoping for help, unome

You should have put the new one in right next to the original one

I did that, that was when the problem occurred. I will wait and have my guy check it out when he can as I have explained that I put the new stick in and that is what caused the problem in the first place, will probably sue 4allmemory for the cost of the computer as I think they caused this by sending out inferior products..just joking, I suspect they are a fly by night operation without a penny to their name. So thanks for all the valuable information but will stick with what I know, my personal computer guy.

#1. I put in the new ram stick, turned the computer on, beep, beep, beep...
#2. I took the new stick out, turned the computer on, beep, beep, beep.....
#3. I took out the old ram stick, turned on the computer, beep, beep, beep...
#4. I put both ram sticks in, turned on the computer, beep, beep, beep....
#5. I took out the new stick, turned on the computer, beep, beep, beep...
#6. I now have only the original ram stick in the computer and when I turn it on all that it will do is beep, beep, beep, beep, on and on, no monitor, no mouse, nothing, just BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP.....
#7. I am going to get my computer guy to look it over, so there is no need for any further questions concerning Demon...SUGGESTIONS such as 'plug this in, hold that in, pull that out, etc are more than welcome. unome

I had this happen recently....steady stream of beeps. Turned out to be the floppy drive power connection not seated.
