ATAPI incompatable message-help

Hello ,
I am a novis. I got myself a new computer, i took out the dvd drive from the old and put into the new. New works fine. my old won't boot up. it is saying ATAPI drives are incompatable. i have tried google no luck. I have tried turning the wires around, I have tried to reinstall win. now it won't even detect the hard drive. help me please.

    Ital......  Well , how about telling us what the configuration is on the old pc ? Does it still have a cd drive in it and is that drive set as slave or master ?
    Maybe , the dvd drive you took out was set up as the master .

    Thanks for your reply,
    This was the config. The old pc had two dvd burners both slaves, both removed. Leaving a cd drive and a hard drive.
    presently in the old pc the hard drive is the master cd is slave.

      Ital....... Have you tried ......the Hard drive as Primary Master , and the cd-rom as the Secondary master ?
