    NEED ADVICE purchasing laptop, please

That first post in my name got here in error--sorry.  Here is my question:

These are two laptops I own now:

#1:     COMPAQ     Presario C500  with Vista Basic
Processor:  Intel Celeron    [email protected] GHZ
    Memory:  512mb RAM (1/2 gig)
    32-bit  Operating System
    68.9 GB HD

#2:     TOSHIBA  Satellite ¾ Windows XP
    Processor:   1.40 GHZ
    Memory:      496mb RAM
    55.8GB HD   31.9 Free

I want to sell the Compaq and get something faster, with a larger HD. I simply copy movies, do a lot of  word processing because I’m writing a book (trying to), I watch movies on my laptops a lot… nothing too technical, but I am interested in FASTER and something I’ll want to keep for a long time without technology having me looking for something else real soon.

Here’s what I’m looking at to buy:

    TOSHIBA P305D LAPTOP      Price:     $498

    Home Office                                         250GB Hard drive
4096 MB DDR2 Memory                     Reads ‘n Writes CDs & DVDs
    802.11 B/G                                           Vista Home Premium
17.1” TruBriteWidescreen LCD           Webcam (who cares)

Is this something worth buying or am I going to want something else in a year or two that’s faster, more equipped, etc.?

Looks like a good computer and I'd imagine with what you're wanting to do it should last you more than two years (probably around three) assuming nothing goes wrong with it.

May also want to review through the below buying tips:
