WHAT CAN I DELETE? PC is soooo slow. Help!!

Windows logo key is located in lower left corner of the keyboard.

Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.

Click Config... button.
Click Open Uninstall Manager... button.
Click Save list... button.
Click Save.
The list will be saved as uninstall_list.txt in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis folder.
At the same time, Notepad will open with the list displayed.
Select all text, copy, and paste in your next reply.

You had me do that a month or so ago. I dunno....does that mean I have to download it again or does it mean I have it already??  Take a look at the screenshot I posted a few days ago here. You will see it on my desktop. You had me download Hijackthis & cc cleaner.

We had gone thru many steps and you had me turn my stats & post to another board. I did that and never got a follow up.

On post #13 you asked for - processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)

I had already posted it on #5.  Did I do it wrong?

Mom, you already have Hijack this on your computer but before you use it you should get all the up-dates and your computer has 1 gb of RAM. It looks like you also have the log file on your desktop from the last time you used Hijack This. When you run it again, make sure that you send the newest one.

Hi. The hijack this is not old. I would say 3 months or so. Do I still need to update? If yes, how do I do that? 


I think I quite positive that I do not have 1gb of RAM at this point.

open hijack , click on the 4th one down , move the slide down and you will see update , harry 48

Sorry for not noticing your computer info. I got it now.
I have no idea, what happened with the other thread. Some email notification must have missed me.

As for HJT, see, if you have HijackThis folder in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\
If so, find hijackthis.exe file there, and double click on it to run HJT.
Alternatively, go Start>All Programs, and see, if HJT is there.
Follow next steps from my reply #15.

You can uninstall unneeded programs from the control panel "add remove programs".

Be sure you empty the recycle bin.

Delete temp files for the browser in the Tools tab in the browser under Internet Options.

Your hard drive is dangerously full at this point and that's why it is running so slow.

CCleaner can also help if you know how to use it.

I'm sure others here will give more advice that will help.

Any files I have I most likely do not use. My ex-husband always messed around with the PC. I only surf net, sell stuff on ebay and take pics basically just for that. Once I take pic, I put them all in PhotoBucket so I can erase them from my PC.

I have the free version of CCcleaner too but I don't know what to do with it. When I downloaded it a few months ago, I think you guys had me do a scan. It blocked a bunch of things.

If you list the programs we can go over them and see if you use any of them anymore and we can make some space for you.

most of the programs there will not effect how windows runs,,they are almost all user added.

I went to the Icon on my desktop HJT and opened it. I chose to see the log. Notepad opened up. I copied and pasted it for you. I am sorry. I thought that is what you asked me to do.




Lostcoast...I will see if I know how to get a copy of the programs I have. Maybe you or someone else can help.

Ok, here goes some more info for you guys.......


Attached are my programs. Here are a few pretty basic Programs I am positive that I need.

OLYMPUS for digital Camera
BROTHER for Printer
AI ROBOFORM - Keeps a list of my passwords
INVOKE SOLUTIONS - For real-time online surveys
KEYNOTE CONNECTOR- For another real-time survey thing I occassionally participate
PAINT
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 2.0
VIVIDENCE CONNECTOR - More survey Stuff
WINDOWS INTERNET EXPLORER - To acces the web


QUESTION ... Are J2SE Runtime Enviornment 5.0 Update 6  & Java(TM) 6 Update 7  the same???  If yes, do I need both. They seem to be pretty large in size.




As I have stated, my needs are very basic. (No music, movies or games) I never use Microsoft Office. When I tried to remove it, I got a message:

Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS.
Verify that you have the sufficient permission to access the registry or contact Sony Product Support for assistance.

How can I remove Office???

You may have to just use a pen and paper to list the programs and type it in here.

Please note each one if you know what they are and use them with a " * " as a indicator or just don't list those.

I will then give a short explanation of the ones you have no idea and you can choose to uninstall them or not. If you don't know what they are it's a sign you don't use or need them.

As I said before you need space on the Hard Drive ASAP and that will greatly improve the performance of Windows.

Lostcoast.......I don't understand? Don't you see the Program List I just posted??  The only ones I am certain of are the 9 programs I provided below.

Other than that, you guys will have to tell me which are either Old, no longer needed, useless to me...etc. Also, I guess which are mandatory & must keep.

Yes, I need some extra Hard Drive space FAST! Can't afford a crash. (Why do these things happen at such bad times??!! )
