Samsung stuffs 1.5TB onto three-platter hard drive
« on: March 06, 2009, 09:44:21 AM »
Crazy 149 for 1.5TB.  ;D

Samsung Electronics Co. today announced its first 500GB-per-platter hard drive. The EcoGreen F2EG hard disk delivers up 1.5TB of capacity on three platters. Because the drive has fewer platters and therefore fewer moving parts, Samsung claimed that the drive is more reliable than past iterations of multiplatter, high-capacity hard disk drives.

Quote
The 1.5TB version of the EcoGreen F2EG has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $149.

18,000 @ 192kbps tool up 93gb  :-\

that' pretty much what kpac said- rephrased.

let's see- 93GB/18,000= approximately 5.3 MB for each song.

5.3MB*40,000= 206.66GB

HOWEVER- we must take into account that most music space measurements use 128kbps despite it sucking severely- so reduce the size another third, to around  137GB.

naturally chopping off a third from the bitrate won't translate directly into a third reduction in size, so chances are it will really be around 160GB for 40,000 songs.

The end.
