Wally World has a selection...although probably only 3 or 4 from that brand.

Not if it's a USB mouse. If it's a USB mouse, you should be able to plug it in and go with it (might take 10 seconds or so for Windows to identify what it is though). If it's a PS/2 mouse, the computer should be OFF when connecting it then turned on once the mouse is connected.

Yeah, it's usually marked on the box somewhere.

The PS/2 has a green connector.

Not 100% of the time. Just depends on if the manufacturer decided to stick a green plug on it. Most do, but many don't.

I gave up with wireless mice some time ago as they drain the batteries too quickly, but I too us a wireless keyboard.  With wireless mice I also found that they act crazy if they are put on a shiny surface or one with parallel lines that are realy close together.  A friend of mine also reported that the red light can also get knocked out of line, if this is the case you just have to chuck the mouse.

They are supposed to go really weird if you put them on a mirror.

Yeah, any glossy/reflective surface, as will any optical mouse, wired or not.

so don't polish your desk. Actually my optical mouse wore away the (very thin) wood veneer on the surface of my el-cheapo IKEA desk, so now I use a mat, even though it isn't necessary for an optical mouse.
