It's saved me a few times when investigating sites that I knew might be infected. And allows me to download known malicious software without actually infecting myself.

Just remember nothing is bulletproof. While I have not seen Sandboxie fail yet there is always a chance. Be careful and don't let anything out of the sandbox accidentally.

Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer.

When sanddboxed it is sort of like a separate secure browser. Anything running in it will not make any changes to the system files/registry or even touch your hard drive. You can also run software without actually installing it.

    Basically it's a virtual environment.

Cool...so basically, if I activate the sandbox then run an unknown program, it can't hurt my system?

I wouldn't say "can't". There is always a chance for error with anything.

If you want to run whatever sandboxed just right click it and choose 'Run Sandboxed'. It can be your browser or an installer or even an installed program.

To dump everything in the sandbox just right click the little icon in the system tray and make your choice.

Exactly what was asked when I posted this program up last year.

    Anyways, thanks Evilfantasy. ;)

Then where does it go?  Is it downloaded to sandboxie's server or what?

      C:\Sandbox\

For example, if you install something in the sandbox, the program files will go:
      C:\Sandbox\Drive\C\Program Files\Program Name

It's in the sandbox. Clear the sandbox and it's gone.

To add to my last post, any registry entries the program creates will be created in the sandbox's registry substitute, which I believe is C:\Sandbox.

        Benefits of the Isolated Sandbox

            * Secure Web Browsing: Running your Web browser under the protection of Sandboxie means that all malicious software downloaded by the browser is trapped in the sandbox and can be discarded trivially.

            * Enhanced Privacy: Browsing history, cookies, and cached temporary files collected while Web browsing stay in the sandbox and don't leak into Windows.

            * Secure E-mail: Viruses and other malicious software that might be hiding in your email can't break out of the sandbox and can't infect your real system.

            * Windows Stays Lean: Prevent wear-and-tear in Windows by installing software into an isolated sandbox.

I'd better get it once I'm finished getting rid of my virus/malware problem...This could save me a lot of time!
