    hi, if you were to partition a hard drive 50% windows vista   50% ubuntu how would you choose which one to startup?

    im debating wether or not i should partition a bit of my new hard drive to ubuntu
    i know its a simple question but ive never done a dual OS partition

    Start with Vista first. Shrink the partition down and you only need to give Ubuntu 40GB and it will be happy. Install Ubuntu after Vista. You have a large GB Hard drive. I would also make a separate partition for backups and things like that.

    Ubuntu will install a boot loader. When you power up your computer, you will be asked which operating system to start. It wil look something like this:


    Ubuntu setup is pretty easy. When you boot to the live CD, there will be an option to install there on the desktop. Just click on that and Ubuntu will guide you through the install process. You can decide how much space to devote to your Ubuntu installation.
