no power

i put a new motherboard in my computer (compaq) and now it won't turn on lights on the motherboard light but the fans or nuthin' elses comes on sorta like the power button ain't workin' any suggestions ?

Jumper set right?.....Possibly one of the connectors to the front panel .....all connections secure?

I've checked all the connections they seem to be fine. i don't know much about computers so what's a jumper where is it and how do i check it?

If you don't know much about PC's what possesed you to swap out a MBoard ? ?
Thermal compound applied ?
All MBoard standoffs in place ?
CPU heatsink mounted properly ?

just had an old cp layin' around that needed a mboard so i thought id give it a try ! yeah i put thermal paste and all that stuff but what do ya mean buy stand offs?

Standoffs are the round plastic or metal pegs that separate the motherboard from the case, so that components on the back of the motherboard don't touch the case....If you 're using metal standoffs and one of these are in the wrong position you short the motherboard. They are what you secure the motherboard to.....

yeah i put everything back that was origanly there it is supposed to be a direct replacement mboard

i connected everything the way it came out i took pics so i would know as far as i could see they can only go in certain places like i said it's a direct replacement mboard iv'e looked over the whole thing a million times and can't see no other place for anything to go

Does the power supply work in other computers?

You can use a screwdriver to jump the motherboard. Touch the positive and negative pins at the same time, with the end of the screwdriver.

it's a compaq s6020wm computer and the mboard is a compaq for this model the power supply is new i got a new one 'cause someone told that was the prob but it's not

Frank, in cases like this sometimes it's best to strip down the PC to the motherboard and reassemble it from scratch. Many times just doing this will correct the issue and no cause is ever found.

With regards to the jumper it is usually located near the cmos battery...a small jumper similar to the ones on the back of a harddrive covering  2 of 3 pins on the MB. If you can find documentation for your mothetboard on the manufacturers website it will show you the location and proper position of the jumper.

ok so now i got it to turn on i had to push the yellow button  on the cmos thing do i have to have a restore disck to make it run?

well now i got windows to  come up but now it says system configuration error code purple wjat do i do about that?
