hello, i am trying to find some help with my computer.. it is a emachines t2615, 2003 model... when u plug it up the light around the power button lights green and stays green... but when u press the power button to turn on the computer it will not turn on.. the fan does not start nothing does... just sits there... but im pretty sure that, the light lighting green is showing it is getting power.. so i dont think its the power supply... i have heard people say it could be the CPU.. which is like a anathalon 2600+ .. sumtthing like that.. but honestly i have no idea what is wrong with it.. if u could help me i would really appreciate it.

Start with replacing the power supply with equal wattage or greater.

k, but the ring around the power button is lirghting up green... so i think that is a sign of its getting power, but do u still think its the power supply if so i will try that... could it be the cpu at all?

Even though get lites doesnt mean it cant be the power supply.

If you've never changed the power supply, a six year old PS should be changed anyways....It's done it's job to now apparently.

The symptoms mentioned in the first post
do not correspond to a failing PSU.
        And one more thing.
He said is was a it is an emachines !   :'(

Have you tested whether the ram is bad or it is not reading properly by removing all the ram and trying to start the machine?
*Turn off the power and remove the power cord from the wall before starting work.

If you get a loud beep then it could be a ram problem or others depending on other tests we would perform depending on what outcome you get.

the system doesnt turn on period.. no beeps just a lite around the power supply... nothing starts.. The computer has to be able to turn on to get beeps out of it.. could this be anything with the CPU?

Emachines have a history of bad PSs' ...... swap one in and settle the issue....you'll know if it's the PS or not.......CPUs don't often die unless the fan goes first and they overheat.....most cases the mobo shuts down to protect the chip.....check for leaking capacitors on the mobo....if you have any this could shut you down as well.

E machines use the cheap Bestec PSU which is notorious for going bad & taking the MB with it when it goes.

Be prepared to replace the mobo too.  I've seen too many power supplies take them out as well  :P
