HP Pavilion Won't Boot

Does anyone have an idea on why my laptop goes through a series of five power cycles when I try to power it on. All the power lights come on but after a second it shuts down and then starts back up five times in a row but never makes it to the post screen. Motherbord or CPU? Please Help!

Maybe power supply failure... Maybe overheating?

Are there any.........pnp[ plug-and play] modem printer/scanner etc:......attached to it...........is its/o/s winxp
