motherboard reading cpu wrong

My motherboard is reading my cpu as amd engineering sample at 1.6ghz, but it's really phenom ii x3 at 2.6ghz. I'm not exactly sure when it started doing it, but I'm thinking sometime this month b/c I noticed my computer was running slower.
I've already tried updating my drivers and I've done a bios flash. Please help!

That everest program just read it the same too and I already ran cpuz b4...probably should have mentioned that. On cpuz it said the name was amd Opteron 1300(a square)0û Black Edition, it also says in the specification line amd engineering sample. My bios just says it's amd engineering sample.

So Everest identified the CPU incorrectly and CPU-Z says it right?

In past, I have tried CPU-Z on my own computer and my old computer that my dad now uses, and it reported it fine. I would trust CPU-Z since it says amd engineering sample, which is same as what your bios says.

No, cpuz still reads it wrong, it just includes the opteron thing in it for some reason. My cpu is a phenom ii x3 710 and that's what it used to read in my bios and on cpuz. It's slower now too.

And I'm wondering, does it really matter that motherboard is reading CPU wrong? Are you not able to do what you want to do on your computer with that little error on?

Did you buy the CPU or is it the one that came with the computer? How old is your computer? What Operating System do you own?

It doesn't just read it wrong, my computer is slower. I play a lot of mmos and I'm getting half the fps that I used to.
I bought the cpu. Built my comp maybe 3 or 4 months ago. Windows xp os

you might want to ask newegg customer service about that since that's where you bought it and they should try to get it straightened out for you (Newegg customer service is reliable)

You can't just say 100% no to buying things online. Buying things from Amazon, Newegg and all the other good sites are fine and of course it's all real people behind the scene getting the products out to you, they could've made an error just like at any retail store that you physically walk into.

You just have to be careful and check that everything is all good at your end, is all. And yeah, since Newegg sold you the product, and it's having a problem, they should be able to tell you either what's wrong with it, or direct you to the places where you can get help (or potentially get help)
