    WMP11 restarts my system
    « on: June 28, 2009, 04:30:14 AM »
Recently, In my friend system, When I open Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11), the system automatically restarted without any information.

I tried to reinstall the WMP11. While in the middle of the installation the system also restarted automatically.

Reinstalling the windows does not helps me. But before installing the audio driver the system works fine without sound.

There is no problem with other media players except WMP11.

When I try to talk through Google Talk, system also restarted.

    Specifications

    Intel D101GGC Motherboard
Windows XP Pro with SP3 (WMP11 integrated)
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 Turbocache Graphics Card.
    1GB RAM

    Anyone help me?

Can you go into System Restore and choose a restore point that is prior to the change?

You may need to boot into Safe Mode to complete that.

We are going to need more information than that, it's just a little bit vague.
Will the computer POST?  Will it start to load the OS?  Do you get a Boot Disk error?

The list of questions for that go on for a long time, any other information that you can provide will make this a LOT easier.

OS boot normally. There is no error or problem during boot.

Only problem comes when I try to open WMP11 or play mp3 or video in WMP11.

Otherwise OS runs without any problem.

        What Windows version is it?

        Disable "Restart on error" feature...

        1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
        2. Click the Advanced tab (Vista: click Advanced system settings).
        3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
        4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
        5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

You may see some error message. If so, post back what it says.

Thanks for this info. I tried that, but there is no message or information displayed during restart after open WMP11.

            Open Windows Explorer.
            Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.
Vista users You may need to copy .dmp files, paste them into some other folder, or desktop, and zip them there.

              You're infected.
Errors come from winsec.exe, which is malicious file.

I hope my problem comes due the malware infection and recovered soon.
