    Vista RAM problem - Daily
    « on: July 01, 2009, 03:25:36 AM »
I have never experienced something like this before.

Every morning around 2 AM PST the RAM usage will steadily increase from whereever it was at at the time, until it is maxed out at 6 GB. No process is shown using this, neither by Task Manager or Process Explorer. After restarting all is fine until the same time the next day.

No viruses or other malware were found by NOD32 or MBAM.

    OS: Vista Ultimate x64 SP2
PC Brand / Model" N/A, custom build
    RAM: A-DATA DDR2 (3x2GB)
    Hard Drive: Western Digital
    Sound Card: ASUS Xonar DX
Video Card: EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+

    Please help me!

I think what the OP is saying is that she can see the RAM being maxed out but the task manager can't locate the cause (it can show whether or not it is being maxed but not all the time can it show what process. what version of Vista are you using? 32 bit or 64bit?

Have you got anything set to run automatically at 2am every day in system maintenance, or AV? Are you connected to the internet when this happens? Is your HDD light going mad when this happens?

I don't know what could be set to run at 2. But now it is happening more frequently, not just at 2.
Yes, I am connected to the net when this happens.
My HDD light is on when this happens.

Have you looked to see what might be set up in the Task Scheduler?

Go to start. Type task scheduler in 'search'. Then when it opens have a look in the library and scroll down. If you need more in depth instructions there is a help menu on the right. You will notice the tabs with Trigger etc on them. They will give you times and other info on scheduled tasks.

I read it, my memory just crapped out on me again.  Sometimes it's pretty short. ;)

Nothing in Task scheduler other than a MBAM update at 4 PM

Ok do you have any programmes running when this happens? Any at all? Also what programmes are showing in the notification area when it happens?

Nothing in particular that I have running in the different times it happens. Mostly I only have running are Firefox, Windows Live Mail, Trillian, Steam, NOD32, And Razer and Logitech.
