no sound in my pc at all

pc shows new hardware avance av97 ,when restart pc
but when i try to install driver from cd
it shows hardware cannot be installed
i have also tried latest sound driver from manufacturer website
but same problem
os is  xp
i have avance av97 sound card
dont know who is motherboard manufacturer
