    Can't access google's search results....
    « on: July 17, 2009, 11:33:12 AM »
Ok, I wasn't sure whether I should put this in the Internet browers forum or the Computer Virus forum. Anyways, I'll start from the beginning. A couple of months ago, my computer was infected with Malware. I downloaded an anti-virus scanner and it got rid of it. Since then, however, my computer has been really slow. Whenever I look something up on google, it says this page cannot be displayed, or it says "Redirecting..." and loads me to an ad page. Ex: If I look up Canadian citizenship, it brings me to one of those ad pages about canadian citizenship. The only way that I can access a page is by using "Cached" but that still takes a really long while. I thought that maybe there were still some traces of malware in the computer so I scanned the computer with a variety of different anti-virus softwares, but they still came up with nothing. Help!?  ???

    Most likely a virus.

To make sure, click here to download HijackThis.

    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad.
    • Click on Edit > Select All then click on Edit > Copy to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or required by the system.
Oh, and welcome to the forum. ;D

I can't see much there. There are some leftovers of Nortan there, though.

Might be better to check it out properly all the same.

Read the information posted here: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html
Then start a new topic here: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?action=post;board=7.0, refer to this topic, and post the three logs mentioned in the removal guide.

A malware removal specialist will then assist you, but please be patient as there is a backup at the moment. ;)
