Samsung NC10 Netbook Review
« on: August 11, 2009, 03:25:24 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I thought that it might be worth reviewing this fantastic netbook that I am sure is the best one out there. I recently got a black NC10 and since getting it I have completely loved it.

The first thing that you notice about the NC10 is the build quality. You may be forgiven for thinking that it is a full blown ultraportable costing over £2000 rather than a netbook costing just £329.99. The keyboard is very comfortable with good sized keys and the large battery props the system up a tiny bit making typing even more comfortable. There is one stupid but very annoying problem with the keyboard though -  The '\' key is on the right hand side of the keyboard next to the '/' key instead of on the left so I keep on typing 'z' if I am not looking at the keyboard.

The netbook also has a fantastic selection of ports. On the right hand side of the unit there is a VGA video connector (but there are no screw holes), one USB port and headphone and microphone ports, there is also a Kensington Security Lock connector. Along the front edge there is an SD card reader (but it has a little plastic blanker that is easy to loose) and there is also seven LEDs. Along the left hand side of the computer is the power jack, an ethernet port with two green LEDs and a further two USB ports.

The netbook also includes a 1.3 megapixel webcam located above the screen which has average quality.

The NC10's touchpad feels responsive but it's inbuilt scroll function can sometimes get annoying - It scrolls when you don't want it to. But this feature can be disabled in Control Panel. On the first look it seems to only have one mouse button but there is infact two - It is a sort of rocker stile button.

The system POSTs very quickly. The Samsung logo flashes so quickly you can hardly get into the BIOS.

Finally the 10.2" LCD screen is of a reasonable quality but can seem a bit grainy at times. And also note that the built in speakers are extremely tinny - Like a mobile phone speaker.

Specs:

1.6gHz Intel Atom N270 (With HyperThreading)
160gb SATA Hard Drive (Hitachi)
1gb DDR2 RAM
3 USB Ports
Windows XP Home Edition SP3
100mbit Ethernet
Atheros WiFi
SDHC Card Reader
10.2" LCD Screen
1.3mp Webcam
Up to 9 hours battery life

Pros:
- High quality finish
- Comfortable Keyboard
- Good power

Cons:
- Tinny Speakers
- Grainy Screen
- Touchpad can get annoying

9 hours! Amazing. Netbooks are great for battery life.

Although honestly I always feel "dirty" when I use my laptop's battery.

It shows 8 hours in the chart, and that's only with the lowest brightness setting, no wireless and idling the computer.
How useful. :P

surprised they don't say "in hibernation" and show an infinity symbol, and then claim "the battery never dies!"

By putting a copyright on the picture....

You can get disqualified in my IB Course if you submit work without giving a reference to any used copyrighted pictures.

i found a issue with copyrighting a picture
i know this is a wrong place
but what if you for example
take out one horizontal line of pixels
then its not the same picture so why isnt the copyright released?
