Any way to find out what's wrong?
    « on: August 14, 2009, 09:31:36 AM »
I just got an entirely new computer about a week ago(mainboard w/ video card, cpu, memory, power supply, hard drive, monitor). Everything was going smoothly until this morning. I left it on over night and when I moved the mouse to turn the screen back on nothing happened. Eventually I had to reset the pc and still nothing happened. The computer is running it's just unresponsive. I hooked up a different monitor and it still just acts like it's hibernating or something. The mouse and keyboard don't turn on either.

Anyway, I don't suppose there's a way to tell what's wrong is there? I built the computer so I'd probably have to completely take it apart to return it.

Double check all your connections with all power removed...
Remove and re-seat all addon cards and RAM sticks...
If still no joy-joy swap in a known working PSU of the same or greater wattage...

Good Luck and let us know.

I tried reconnecting everything but still no go. Not sure if I can get ahold of another supply. You think that could be the problem? I'm just hoping it isn't the hard drive because I got that somewhere else and it already has some important stuff on there. But a damaged hard drive would still at least make it to bios you'd think.

A bad HDD will not prevent a pc from getting to post in most circumstances....

I had a HDD that failed so bad it reported itself as a bunch of random characters to the BIOS. needless to say it confused to BIOS (probably by returning it's name as a really long string) and caused it to freeze and just beep.

      Gotcha...

Have never ran across this before...but disconnecting the drive temporarily will let us know if it will POST or not...
All that needs removed is the data cable.
