Cannot remove uninstalled game desktop icon

I have just uninstalled a PC cd-rom game - that seems to be all ok.  I now have the game's desktop icon remaining and I can't get rid of it.  When r-clicking I take the usual delete and remove to Recycle Bin option. but then get the following: "Could not find this item.  This is no longer located in C:\Users\Public\Desktop.  Verify the item's location and try again".

What do I do now? Suggestions appreciated.

I have Vista Home Premium SP2

Right click on it, click Properies. What does it say under Target?

Just for future ref Silkie you can also try right clicking on a blank bit of screen and clicking refresh. Saves having to do the restart if it ever happens again
